HEAT STRIKE
IT’S NOT COOL
HEAT STRIKE
TOO HOT TO WORK
ON THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR, WE STRIKE
1314
HAVE PLEDGED TO TAKE PART. WILL YOU?
On the hottest day of the year people all over the UK will join the Heat Strike.
When did the height of summer become something to dread?
In 2022 the UK passed 40°C for the first time in recorded history, and it’s not getting any cooler. Unbearable heat waves are going to keep getting worse. But the government doesn’t have a plan to protect lives. It’s time they got the message, cool it!

STRIKE WHILE IT’S HOT
Right now we’re building the movement.
Union members are passing Heat Strike motions in their branches and trades councils. Climate groups are getting the word out and preparing local actions for the hottest day. We’re a growing coalition of groups committed to workers rights and Climate Justice for all. Find out what you can do now and access resources such as posters and draft motions by signing up for the heat strike flat pack.
The coalition is ready to respond to the next heat wave.
When a heatwave is forecast we’ll send the signal to strike. People and groups around the UK already signed up will spring into action. Mobilising friends, colleagues, and members to join the Heat Strike. Dropping banners, handing out flyers, running workplace activities, posting on social media and sending out emails.
Don’t face the heat alone. On the hottest day of the year join the Heat Strike.
People across the country will stay at home to stay safe. Climate groups and union branches will set up local events from lunch time walk outs to Cool Stations, and other activities. Sign up to find out what you can do on the hottest day and get the heat strike flat pack.
IT’S NOT COOL
The Heat Strike will put pressure on politicians and work places to protect the lives of workers and vulnerable people in the face of extreme heat. Our coalition of climate groups and unions have come together and this is what we are striking for:
TOO HOT TO WORK
Set a national maximum working temperature
Since 2008, unions have been calling for a maximum working temperature, but the UK government still isn’t listening. We demand that the UK government set a national maximum indoor working temperature of 30°C (27°C for those doing strenuous work).
PROTECT LIVES
Put in place a heat wave furlough scheme
Heat waves in the UK are only set to get hotter and more frequent. Working people can’t afford to bear the cost of climate breakdown, and they shouldn’t have to. We demand that the government works with employers and Trade Unions to set up a heat wave furlough scheme for when they can’t keep workplace temperatures below 30°C.
TAKE EMERGENCY ACTION
Make a climate action plan
In 2022 the High Court ruled that the UK government’s climate action plan is so inadequate that it is illegal.
People are feeling the heat right now, we feel it in our homes and our workplaces. In the face of ever more frequent and deadly extreme weather, we demand that our Government make a plan that responds to the climate crisis by tackling its causes and averting the worst of its impacts in years to come.
Until then, the UK remains headed for climate collapse without a plan, and so the Heat Strike continues.
